Stevia is a natural sweetener and sugar substitute derived from the leaves of the plant species Stevia rebaudiana, native to Brazil and Paraguay. The active compounds are steviol glycosides, which have about 50 to 300 times the sweetness of sugar, are heat-stable, pH-stable, and not fermentable.
Stevia needs full sun to thrive, so pick a spot with at least six hours of sunlight per day. Prepare the soil bed. In terms of soil quality, stevia grows best in soil rich with organic matter. Avoid chemical fertilizers when planting stevia, since these can affect the sweetness of the leaves.
